3 New hotels in New Orleans that you should check in to

Hotel Fontenot

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Kimpton Hotel in New Orleans, but the now open Hotel Fontenot makes an appropriate re-introduction to the city. Situated at Tchoup and Poydras Street, the 202 room hotel is centrally located and stylish while still feeling intimate.

Gospel Coffee and Boozy Treats and the Peacock Room will easily become the go to new spots for food loving locals and tourists alike. If you’re looking for a hotel with a really good soaking tub then the spa suites were designed for you. Need more space to spread out with your family or krewe then opt for the almost 1,000 square foot presidential suite.

It’s the little details like steamers instead of irons (who was reading my mind?!), yoga mats in every room and the literary hub library that make this space feel a bit homier than other hotels in town. The signature restaurant will open in 2022, along with an additional 33 rooms and suites so stay tuned for even more exciting news from our new Kimpton.

Hotel Saint Vincent

When a widow uses money from a successful bakery to start an orphanage you may not think that the end result would be the stylish Hotel Saint Vincent. Luckily for the guests that got to check in to the 75 rooms and suites for the first time on June 15th, Hotel Saint Vincent is highlighting the best parts of its history. Think expansive private terraces, the Mary Suite which overlooks a statue of the Virgin Mary, and the guests’ only Chapel Club which leads directly to the guests’ only pool.

It’ll be hard to take your eyes off the Murano glass chandeliers and the hand painted walls in the Paradise Lounge, but you’ll do it for the house baked breads (again a nod to that history), and the coastal Italian cuisine at San Lorenzo. One of the best features of Hotel Saint Vincent is that it takes you outside of the typical hotel zone and puts you smack in the middle of the residential Lower Garden District.

Even though you’ll be tempted to float between the pool and the restaurants all day, you’ll want to venture out and head in either direction on Magazine Street for local favorites like, Barrel Proof, The Courtyard Brewery, Bakery Bar, The Tasting Room, and Deanie’s Seafood. Take the #11 bus further uptown or walk over to St. Charles Avenue and take the more scenic (and slower) streetcar ride. No matter what you decide to do, you’re centrally located to explore the entire city.

Virgin Hotels New Orleans

New Orleans is the fifth Virgin Hotel to open in the U.S. after Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, and Nashville. If you’ve never had the pleasure of staying at a Virgin Hotel, then this opening is worth the trip to New Orleans alone. Virgin Hotels’ rooms will surprise you the moment you walk in. Their unique two-chamber design features a sliding barn-style door separating the sleep and relaxation lounge from the dressing area in every room. Plus, stand-alone vanities, ample storage, plugs in all the convenient places, yoga mats, and other surprising details are all aimed at making you feel better during your stay.

Virgin also snagged Chef Alex Harrell from Elysian Bar, one of my favorite establishments in the city. Chef Alex has been a New Orleans based chef for more than 20 years and will be leading the kitchen at the Commons Club. The Kitchen at Commons Club will offer an eclectic menu with reinvented takes on contemporary American dishes.  And make sure you enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail at the Bar at Commons Club. The bar will serve creative cocktails in a beautifully designed setting. Think thoughtfully crafted drinks, wine and beer enjoyed alongside tempting bar bites and a rotating lineup of live entertainment.

Virgin Hotel New Orleans sits in the heart of the Central Business District which is a nice mix of residences and local businesses. You can easily walk to the Superdome, French Quarter, or the Warehouse District. But you’re far enough away from the action that you can get a good night’s sleep before grabbing coffee and breakfast at The Funny Library in the hotel’s lobby.
