Everything you need to know about summer road trips

1. What sources should you reference for road trips?

AAA is still a great resource for road trip travel trends as they compile a lot of information on traffic and driving trends. I also have some supplier partners like Excurionsist that have been creating amazing itineraries that link 3-4 cities in a single trip with the option for private drivers if you’d rather be a passenger than a driver.

2. The best places to take a road trip right now

Any of the national or state parks, there are some beautiful state parks on beaches in Florida like Grayton Beach State Park where you can glamp in a vintage airstreams, have rented bicycles waiting upon your arrival, and bike or walk down to one of the nicest beaches in the country.

  • From New York- head to the Hudson Valley, Vermont, and The Berkshires

  • From LA- Go to Death Valley National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and Palm Springs

  • From Atlanta- head to Asheville, Nashville, and Chattanooga

3. Tips for a high-end, sophisticated road trip

  • Hire a private driver if you don’t want to have to navigate

  • Arrange for picnics to be delivered to predetermined stopping points on your route

  • Visit popular locations on private tours before their open to the public or after they have closed

  • Plan your overnights in locations where there are 5 star properties, you’ll be on the road and in cars for long stretches of time so you’ll want to pamper yourself when you get to the hotel.

Tips for curating an unexpected road trip

Connect to as many local experiences as possible while traveling. This could include visiting with an artist in their studio, taking a cooking class or going wine tasting in a family owned restaurant or winery, seeing a destination from a different vantage point like a helicopter ride, or taking a sunrise hike followed by yoga.
