Whether you’re planning a small day trip, a weekend getaway, or venturing into your first international trip this summer, you might be wondering how you can make your trip safer for you and your family.

Keeping safe while traveling

By now, we’re all used to the small changes that we need to do to keep ourselves and others safe in public, like wearing masks, carrying around hand sanitizer, and social distancing. Although my traveling has obviously slowed down, I’ve still been out and about and have picked up a few tips that you should add to your packing list.

Packing Essentials for Now and Post-Covid Travel

1.     Tap to pay credit card

More and more credit cards are being made with “tap to pay” features. Not only are they better at protecting you from fraud, but they also cut down on contact. No more touching surfaces used by dozens of other people - with one tap, you’re all set to go!

2.     Laundry detergent

Not an obvious choice, but bringing a small container of detergent is a great way to wash your reusable masks on the go. Reusable masks should only be used once before being washed to keep you safe. Bring a small about of laundry detergent for a mid-week sink wash of your masks on your longer trips.

3.     Reusable snack containers

If you’re planning any kind of road trip, you should incorporate reusable containers into your packing list. Not only are they better for the environment than single use plastics, but they can cut down on your need to stop – and in turn, reducing your contact with other people along your route.

4.     Portable phone charger

Okay, maybe this one has been on your packing list for a while, but if it isn’t yet – you should add it! Besides the increasingly infrequent access to charging stations, many places now require ticket reservations online prior to arrival to limit crowds. You really don’t want to get caught with a dead phone locking away your digital ticket.

5.     Clean key

You’ve probably seen small gadgets like this online and in checkout lines. They’re an easy to clean, metal gadget that hangs on your keychain and are used to cut down on your contact with surfaces. They can be used to press elevator keys, sign touchscreen surfaces, and even have a hook to open doors!

The best trip is the one where you feel comfortable and safe, so these tips will have you feeling confident that no matter what the external circumstances are you’re prepared for any scenario.
