WHERE TO STAY, EAT, & PLAY IN SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
National Rum Day is just 3 months away, so it seemed appropriate to talk about one of my favorite destination. This beautiful Caribbean island is responsible for over 70% of the rum sold in the U.S. That’s right, PR exports more than 80 types of rum, from silver to spiced. Now that you know why Puerto Rico is the Rum Capital of the World. Let’s talk about what you should do when you visit!
I’m sharing just a few of my recommendations for how you can spend a day in San Juan!
STAY: @condadovanderbilt has it all. A central location (think: walking to restaurants like @serafinasanjuan, @joseenriquepr, and @mariopaganrestaurant), the only hammam spa in PR, a cigar lounge, and spacious rooms with balconies large enough for you to enjoy a rum drink from! EAT (aka drinking your calories): There are some dining gems in San Juan, but we’re here to talk cocktails! I have so many bars that I frequent in San Juan, I’m just going to drop them below and let you experience them for yourselves!

DO: If you want to stay in San Juan proper and still have a rum experience, sign up for a rum runners walking tour with @flavorsfoodtours. You’ll learn not only the history of rum in PR, but also visit some spots that are making innovative cocktails, with of course lots of chances to sample.
If you want to see the magic happen then you’ll have to head a bit out of town to visit @bacardi or @rondelbarrilito distilleries. Bacardi and Ron del Barrilito both offer cocktail classes after your tours and I personally loved the Ron del Barrilito one! It’s easy to spend your entire San Juan vacation sipping Piña Coladas on the beach! But if you want to learn a bit more about why rum became such an important part of PR, work with your personal expert (ahem 😉) to learn which experience is best for you!
